Description: A radiant depiction of the French Riviera town of Menton, rendered in vivid tones of blue, gold, and ochre by celebrated Post-Impressionist Pierre Neveu. The view captures the historic old town rising from the Mediterranean coast, with its distinctive church tower gleaming under southern light. In the foreground, the sea shimmers in layered hues of turquoise and deep cobalt, contrasting beautifully with the sun-warmed façades and surrounding hills.
Neveu’s mastery of both architectural structure and atmospheric nuance is fully evident here. Fine pen work outlines the rhythmic geometry of the buildings, while transparent washes of watercolour convey the luminous haze of the Côte d’Azur. His brushwork alternates between precision and spontaneity, suggesting the heat, light, and quiet elegance of the Riviera.
Born in 1929, Pierre Neveu studied at the École Boulle and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris before becoming Professor of Drawing for the City of Paris. A frequent exhibitor at the Salon d’Automne and the Salon des Artistes Français, he later served as President of the painting section. Neveu’s work bridges traditional draftsmanship and modern French colourism, making him a respected figure within the Post-Impressionist tradition.

Pierre Neveu was born in Paris. He was a professor of Drawing. Some of his exhibits include Invite d'honneur, Salon de Margency (1998); Nolan-Rankin Galleries Houston, Texas (1997); Kulturklub des Europäischen Patentamt Munich (1987); Beernau Foret-Noir (1985); and Marie de Tour-sur-Marne, Champagne (1983).
