Description: A striking Parisian watercolour by Pierre Neveu (b.1929) depicting the Notre-Dame Cathedral rising above the River Seine, viewed from the quayside with a moored boat in the foreground. This dynamic perspective captures both the architectural elegance of the cathedral and the gentle rhythm of river life that defines Paris.
Executed in Neveu’s signature style — a balance of crisp ink drawing and expressive watercolour washes — the composition is alive with contrast and movement. Deep indigos and cool greys shape the bridge and boats, while subtle violets and greens animate the skyline and reflections on the water. The artist’s refined draughtsmanship reveals his architectural training, while the looseness of his brushwork lends immediacy and atmosphere.
Pierre Neveu studied at the École Boulle and the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, later becoming Professor of Drawing for the City of Paris. A long-time exhibitor at the Salon d’Automne and Salon des Artistes Français, he was awarded the Gold Medal in 1994. His paintings are admired for their masterful control of tone and structure, distilling French modernist elegance into lyrical, fluid scenes.

Pierre Neveu was born in Paris. He was a professor of Drawing. Some of his exhibits include Invite d'honneur, Salon de Margency (1998); Nolan-Rankin Galleries Houston, Texas (1997); Kulturklub des Europäischen Patentamt Munich (1987); Beernau Foret-Noir (1985); and Marie de Tour-sur-Marne, Champagne (1983).
