About the Item

Title: Paris Street Scene with Red Awning and Iron Gates Watercolour by Pierre Neveu Artist: Pierre Neveu (French b.1929) Medium: Watercolour on artist paper, unframed Size (H x W): 8.5 x 6.25 inches Condition: Good overall, vibrant colours and surface in very good condition Provenance: From the artist’s studio sale in France; all works by this artist in our collection originate from the artist’s estate. Description: This refined Paris street scene by Pierre Neveu (b.1929) exemplifies his architectural sensitivity and gift for distilling urban character through colour and form. The composition centres on the meeting point of two narrow façades — one with a bold red awning and glowing shopfront, the other with iron gates leading into a shadowed passageway. Above, the honey-coloured stone and grey roofline of a Haussmannian building anchor the scene in a timeless Parisian vernacular. Neveu’s use of watercolour is at once restrained and expressive: washes of ochre, slate, and carmine are balanced by precise linear details in graphite and ink. His minimal yet evocative handling suggests a fleeting moment of urban quiet, perhaps glimpsed in early morning light. Stamped “Champs Élysées par Pierre Neveu”, the work originates from the artist’s personal studio collection. Neveu trained at the École Boulle and the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, later serving as Professor of Drawing for the City of Paris and winning the Gold Medal of the Salon des Artistes Français in 1994. A masterclass in composition and restraint, this piece distils the quiet elegance of Parisian street architecture into a few masterful strokes — a luminous addition to Neveu’s celebrated cityscapes.

Parisian Street Scene
By Roland Dubuc
Located in London, GB
'Parisian Street Scene', watercolour on art paper, by Roland DuBuc (circa 1970s). This artwork is a delightful depiction of a Parisian street which scales the hill to the neighbourhood of Montmartre, the home of the basilica of Sacré-Cœur. DuBuc's artworks serve as a love letter to the city of Paris and are recognised by his incredibly charming style. The signed artwork is in good overall condition and has been newly framed with anti-reflective glass. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying this listing. Upon request a video of the piece may be provided. About the Artist: Roland DuBuc (1924-1998), French artist, the sixth of 13 children and son of a construction worker. The very precariousness of the family's financial situation forced him to go to work at the age of 14. In extreme poverty, he moved to Rouen where he was lodged by the Salvation Army. During that time he struck up friendships with several artists who gave him advice and taught him techniques of drawing. He moved to other cities later where he met painters including, among others, Fred Pailhès...

Rue St Rustique, Montmartre and Sacré-Coeur Basilica, Paris. Watercolor and Ink.
Located in Cotignac, FR
Mid 20th Century drawing and watercolour of Rue St Rustique in Paris. The drawing is titled and signed bottom left but the signature is as yet undeciphered. Unframed but with a cut card mount. A charming view of one of the oldest streets in Montmartre and Paris leading up to the iconic Sacré-Coeur Basilica. The artist has captured all the charm of this treasured view. They have shown a mastery of their art and wonderful handling of the drawing and watercolour. A lovely evocative painting that would grace any collection or interior. This street in the old village of Montmartre, which existed before the eleventh century as a path, later became an alley that served as a boundary between the seigneuries of Saint-Denis and Montmartre. Called "rue Notre-Dame" around 1516, it is indicated on the map of Jouvin de Rochefort of 1672 as a road. It was classified as part of the Parisian road network by a decree of 23 May...
