Description: This expressive Provençal landscape by French Post-Impressionist painter Pierre Neveu depicts a radiant sunlit chapel set above a winding hillside path. With its warm ochre walls, terracotta roofline, and distinctive bell tower with twin arch openings, the church is characteristic of rural village chapels found throughout Southern France — particularly in the Luberon and Alpes-de-Haute-Provence regions. Flanked by tall cypress trees and framed by dense Mediterranean foliage, the architecture stands glowing under an intensely blue sky.
Neveu’s mastery of colour is immediately recognisable: deep shadows are painted in cool blues and violets, while sun-soaked walls shift between saffron, gold, and warm sienna. The pathway leading toward the chapel is rendered with loose, fluid washes that capture both the heat and brightness of a Provençal afternoon.
