Description: A charming Post-Impressionist landscape by Pierre Neveu, depicting the sunlit village of Cucuron in the Luberon region of Provence. Painted in delicate yet expressive watercolour, the work captures the warmth of the French countryside with its rolling green hills, ochre rooftops, and the faint blue silhouette of distant mountains. In the foreground, a rustic stone farmhouse sits among olive trees and soft shadows, evoking the timeless atmosphere of rural southern France. Neveu’s brushwork is fluid and intuitive, balancing structural drawing with free washes of colour to create a sense of both movement and tranquillity. The composition’s luminous palette—rich greens, golden yellows, and soft sky blues—beautifully conveys the Mediterranean light for which Provence is renowned. Collectors of French landscape art will appreciate this piece for its authenticity and immediacy, reminiscent of the plein-air tradition that inspired generations of Post-Impressionist painters. Pierre Neveu (b.1929) studied at the École Boulle and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, later becoming Professor of Drawing for the City of Paris. He exhibited widely at the Salon d’Automne and the Salon des Artistes Français, and his work is admired for its compositional strength and vivid sense of place. This unframed watercolour offers a wonderful opportunity to own a piece of modern French art history—capturing the enduring beauty and serenity of Provence.
