Description: This expressive watercolour depicts a hilltop Provençal village, characterised by pale stone buildings, terracotta rooftops, and a central church tower set against a broad, layered landscape beyond. The elevated viewpoint allows Pierre Neveu to explore both architecture and terrain, with the village cascading downward into shadowed streets and rooftops in the foreground.
The background hills are rendered in cool blue and grey washes, creating depth and atmosphere, while darker green foliage frames the village and softens the architectural forms. Neveu’s confident use of ink line defines roof edges, walls, and windows, while fluid watercolour washes are allowed to bleed and overlap, lending the scene movement and spontaneity.
