Description: An evocative plein air landscape of Roche d’Ouglas, painted in transparent washes by Pierre Neveu (b.1929). The scene captures a peaceful French village nestled among verdant fields, with a church tower rising at the centre beneath a bright, cloud-dappled sky.
Neveu’s confident handling of light and form creates a perfect balance between architectural clarity and atmospheric softness. Loose brushwork and fresh colour washes — in emerald greens, siennas, and ultramarine blues — convey the immediacy of painting outdoors, likely completed on-site as a working study. The artist’s precise yet fluid style reveals his formal training as both draughtsman and painter.
Educated at the École Boulle and École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Neveu went on to become Professor of Drawing for the City of Paris and exhibited regularly at the Salon d’Automne and Salon des Artistes Français, later serving as President of the painting section. His work is admired for its lively depiction of French architecture and light.

Pierre Neveu was born in Paris. He was a professor of Drawing. Some of his exhibits include Invite d'honneur, Salon de Margency (1998); Nolan-Rankin Galleries Houston, Texas (1997); Kulturklub des Europäischen Patentamt Munich (1987); Beernau Foret-Noir (1985); and Marie de Tour-sur-Marne, Champagne (1983).
