Description: A luminous and delicately observed mid-century French street scene by Pierre Neveu (French, b. 1929), depicting the charming village of Rochefort-en-Terre in Brittany. Rendered in Neveu’s distinctive combination of watercolour and ink, the piece captures the play of sunlight and shadow along a narrow lane framed by centuries-old façades.
Neveu’s controlled washes of blue and ochre contrast beautifully with loose, gestural linework that brings architectural texture to life. The cool morning light and crisp sky evoke the stillness of a quiet Breton morning, while his use of empty space enhances the sense of calm and structure.

Pierre Neveu was born in Paris. He was a professor of Drawing.
