Description: A delicate plein-air study by Pierre Neveu, depicting a quiet passageway in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, a historic village perched above the French Riviera between Menton and Monaco. The artist captures the interplay of light and shadow as it moves across stone walls and foliage, leading the eye toward a glimpse of the azure sea beyond.
Executed in Neveu’s signature fusion of drawing and painterly spontaneity, the work balances structure with looseness — pencil scaffolding visible beneath expressive layers of watercolour and gouache. The ochre and terracotta tones of the village contrast beautifully with the crisp Mediterranean blue sky, while gestural greens evoke the density of hillside vegetation.
