Condition: good overall; strong colour retention, with light edge-wear and slight rippling of the paper consistent with age and medium.
Provenance: From the artist’s studio sale in France; all works by this artist in our collection originate from the artist’s estate.
Description: This lyrical French village study by Pierre Neveu depicts Roquemaure in the Gard, a historic commune near the Rhône. Warm stone buildings and terracotta roofs rise amid gardens and trees under southern light. Neveu’s harmonious palette and structural line reflect his Beaux-Arts training, while fluid washes suggest movement and atmosphere.
Both architectural and poetic, this painting exemplifies Neveu’s approach to rural French life: human, balanced, and quietly radiant.
