Description: This expressive Provençal landscape by Pierre Neveu depicts the picturesque village of Sablet, a celebrated commune in the Vaucluse region of southern France. Known for its golden stone houses, terracotta rooftops, winding lanes and cypress-dotted hillsides, Sablet lies between Gigondas and Séguret and is surrounded by vineyards producing the renowned Côtes du Rhône Villages wines. Neveu’s inscription at the lower right clearly identifies the setting, adding strong contextual and SEO value for collectors of regional French art.
Neveu captures the radiant Mediterranean light with loose yet confident watercolour washes. In the foreground, a shaded stone wall and wire fence anchor the composition, leading the eye toward a sunlit cluster of white and ochre houses. The warm yellow façade at the centre glows in the late afternoon light, contrasted beautifully by the deep greens of surrounding trees and the bold silhouette of a tall cypress tree—an iconic symbol of Provence.

Pierre Neveu (b.1929), trained at the École Boulle and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, exhibited widely at the Salon d’Automne and Salon des Artistes Français, receiving the Gold Medal in 1994. His Provençal scenes are especially admired for their vibrancy, clarity, and evocative sense of place.
