Description: This lively watercolour study by Pierre Neveu captures the hilltop village of Sablet in Provence, a commune celebrated for its honey-coloured stone houses, narrow winding streets, and distinctive church tower rising proudly above the skyline. Neveu’s inscription at the lower right confirms the location, and his depiction reflects a keen understanding of the region’s architecture and atmosphere.
The composition leads the viewer up a broad, sunlit path bordered by low stone walls towards the clustered rooftops of the village. Neveu uses warm ochre and terracotta washes to evoke the tiled roofs that define so many Provençal towns. These sit in contrast to the cool blue sky above, rendered with loose, fluid strokes that soften towards the horizon.
