Description: A lively coastal study by Pierre Neveu depicting the working port of Saint-Nazaire on France’s Atlantic coast. The painting shows fishing boats drawn up near a shipyard, with cranes and warehouses lining the harbour wall. Neveu’s blend of watercolour and gouache gives the scene both fluid transparency and solid form, his swift pencil-like outlines anchoring the shimmering washes of ultramarine, slate, and ochre. The sheet’s perforated edge suggests a page from his travel sketchbook — painted quickly, directly, en plein air.
