Description: This contemplative watercolour by Pierre Neveu (b.1929) depicts two female figures in soft evening light by the sea, rendered in hues of violet, turquoise, and indigo. One sits cross-legged in quiet thought, while the other leans gently forward, their gestures captured with remarkable tenderness and restraint.
Neveu’s painterly control is evident in the layering of translucent washes and delicate pastel highlights, evoking the shimmer of twilight against water and skin. The rhythmic verticals of a striped backdrop suggest an architectural or maritime setting — perhaps a pier or bathing pavilion — while the vast horizon opens into a tranquil expanse of ocean and sky.
Trained at the École Boulle and École des Beaux-Arts, Neveu became Professor of Drawing for the City of Paris and President of the Painting Section at the Salon des Artistes Français. Pierre Neveu was born in Paris. He was a professor of Drawing. Some of his exhibits include Invite d'honneur, Salon de Margency (1998); Nolan-Rankin Galleries Houston, Texas (1997); Kulturklub des Europäischen Patentamt Munich (1987); Beernau Foret-Noir (1985); and Marie de Tour-sur-Marne, Champagne (1983).
