Description: An expressive and richly coloured landscape by the French Post-Impressionist Pierre Neveu, this watercolour depicts a sun-dappled woodland path framed by dense foliage and vibrant flowering plants. Executed with Neveu’s characteristic fluency of line and luminous palette, the work combines fluid pen drawing with bold, transparent washes of green, blue, and gold to create a dynamic study of light and movement. A burst of yellow sunlight at the end of the path draws the eye through the composition, while scattered red and pink blossoms enliven the foreground.
Although the lower inscription is not fully legible, the setting evokes the wooded lanes of southern France, where Neveu often painted en plein air. His training at the École Boulle and École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, followed by a distinguished teaching career, underpinned a lifelong fascination with composition and colour harmony. Exhibiting widely across France—including the Salon d’Automne and the Salon des Artistes Français, where he became President of the painting section—Neveu developed a distinctive balance between architectural precision and lyrical spontaneity.

Pierre Neveu was born in Paris. He was a professor of Drawing.
