Description: An evocative and richly coloured depiction of vineyards in the Vaucluse, Provence, by Pierre Neveu, capturing the late summer glow of the southern French countryside. The composition leads the viewer across rows of vines toward a cluster of ochre and terracotta-roofed farmhouses, framed by the soft green of cypress trees and the distant blue haze of the Luberon hills.
Executed in transparent layers of watercolour, this piece demonstrates Neveu’s precise sense of structure and tonal harmony. Fine linear perspective and his use of intersecting guide lines show this as a preparatory composition for a potential large-scale oil or mural work. The balance between warm ochres, greens, and the deep Mediterranean sky creates a serene and authentic portrait of rural Provence — a subject Neveu returned to often throughout his career.
A graduate of the École Boulle and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Pierre Neveu (b.1929) became Professor of Drawing for the City of Paris and exhibited at the Salon d’Automne and the Salon des Artistes Français, where he later served as President of the painting section. His paintings reveal a meticulous balance between architectural discipline and expressive colour — qualities that have made his French landscapes increasingly sought after among collectors.

Pierre Neveu was born in Paris. He was a professor of Drawing. Some of his exhibits include Invite d'honneur, Salon de Margency (1998); Nolan-Rankin Galleries Houston, Texas (1997); Kulturklub des Europäischen Patentamt Munich (1987); Beernau Foret-Noir (1985); and Marie de Tour-sur-Marne, Champagne (1983).
