Church with Two Palm Trees - Brazilian Scene Original Gouache Painting
Beautiful gouache landscape painting by Reynaldo Manzke (Brazilian b. 1906 d. 1980.) Two palm trees lean towards each other in the center of the composition, their fronds overlapping at the top. In between the is a large wooden cross. In the background is a white church building, with details such as the bells visible. In the distance, low mountains fade into the horizon. The brushstrokes are expressive, particularly in the details of the palm fronds. Green and blue are the dominant colors, with magenta accents on the church building.
Signed "Manzke" in bottom left corner.

Reynaldo Manzke was a prominent Brazilian artist, considered a master of landscape painting and known for his atmospheric works in gouache and watercolor. He was primarily active in Sao Paul and Rio De Janiero, displaying frequently in those cities throughout his life. He was a participant in the first Sao Paul Biennial in 1951. His art is now held in private collections globally.
