About the Item
This is a late nineteenth or early twentieth Century Watercolour with bodycolour Painting of a view from the Shore of Stormy Sky and Seas with Boats in the distance. It is an Unsigned Painting on Paper laid on board and mounted in a handmade mount and real gilt frame that is also handmade. It is such a lovely powerful little piece that despite the lack of signature i felt it deserved to be in such a fabulous setting.
The piece is entitled "Passing Storm" and as the name suggests, it is a scene that captures a moment in nature, the skies look vaguely threatening and the sea is not altogether calm, but as is often the case by the sea, it is a fleeting moment and calm is soon restored.

The seascape we have for sale is an exquisite example of Moore’s sea-painting (he began painting the sea in the late 1860s), this, produced at the height of his fame and talents, it was painted in 1891. In it he captures the rolling waves as they catch the light and conveys a cool beauty within this deceptively simple composition. There may be a hint of a vessel in the background but maybe it is a trick of the light!! The seagulls dance in the foreground.
