About the Item

Paris, France by Henri Miloch (1898-1979) Signed and double sided Watercolour and gouache painting on artist's paper, unframed Measures: Sheet 12.5 x 15.5 inches Nicely executed study over the River Seine in Paris. Painted from a high position on a bridge by the highly regarded painter, Henri Miloch. It is signed front lower right. Charcoal or oil pastel has been used to mark out the buildings and bridge stonework. This work forms part of a collection we currently hold by Miloch. The Paris scenes seem to have been completed in the immediate post-war years, around 1948 - many were dated. This one is undated. A figure can be seen on the right of the image, leaning over the bridge in pensive thought. Vehicles are parked alongside the houses overlooking the river. Henri Miloch was born in Trieste (Italy) in 1898 but studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and was a member of the Society of French Artists. His life and work was very much centred in Brittany, in north west France, much of his work portrays Breton maritime life in the various ports, and local town observations, especially in the Concarneau area where he worked and exhibited for much of his artistic career. From 1959 he also had a workshop in Tours (Val de Loire). Condition report: In good clean order, no tears or creases to the sheet (which is quite stiff watercolour paper). The two upper corners of the sheet have the tiniest edge folds but these would not be seen once matted and framed. Very slight toning in the sky area and to the left lower edge area.

Parisian Street Scene
By Roland Dubuc
Located in London, GB
'Parisian Street Scene', watercolour on art paper, by Roland DuBuc (circa 1970s). This artwork is a delightful depiction of a Parisian street which scales the hill to the neighbourhood of Montmartre, the home of the basilica of Sacré-Cœur. DuBuc's artworks serve as a love letter to the city of Paris and are recognised by his incredibly charming style. The signed artwork is in good overall condition and has been newly framed with anti-reflective glass. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying this listing. Upon request a video of the piece may be provided. About the Artist: Roland DuBuc (1924-1998), French artist, the sixth of 13 children and son of a construction worker. The very precariousness of the family's financial situation forced him to go to work at the age of 14. In extreme poverty, he moved to Rouen where he was lodged by the Salvation Army. During that time he struck up friendships with several artists who gave him advice and taught him techniques of drawing. He moved to other cities later where he met painters including, among others, Fred Pailhès...
