About the Item
This small drawing (pencil on paper, 23 x 19 cm) made on paper cut out in the shape of a lunette depicts a view from the apsidal part of the Benedictine abbey church "Saint Ouen Rouen - Normandie," as reported by the title in cursive handwriting near the left corner. The strong attention to detail and definition of each pinnacle, buttress, and ogival arch in this important 14th-century Gothic architecture, and the use of French terms for the title, suggest a live study, probably by a local artist.
Also in the lower left corner is the stamp of a previous collector, which features the capital letters "WFK" separate from point, unfortunately not found on either Lugt or Fagan so at present, although present in other drawings, it has not been identified.
