Questa tipologia di disegno rientra pienamente nelle "accademie" ovvero degli studi dal vivo su modello (che poteva essere un modello in carne ed ossa oppure un'opera antica)che erano l'attività più frequente nelle accademie dal settecento in poi.
In questo caso, il ritratto è di un nudo maschile, con un corpo vigoroso e dai muscoli ben definiti, raffigurato nell'atto di tirare una sorta di corda, forse un drappeggio, in una posa che tende ad evidenziare ancora più la struttura fisica possente dell'effigiato oltre a testare le capacità dell'artista. La pettinatura alla Titus del modello ci aiuta nella datazione, essendo lo stile di capelli più diffuso soprattutto nel primo quarto del XIX secolo. Sebbene sia non firmato, per motivi stilistici può essere attribuito ad un accademico italiano, più probabilmente toscano.
