An exceptionally fine, brush and wash, mythological figural study showing a centaur interrupting the playing of his pan pipes to cast a speculative eye towards a dancing nymph. Dating to the turn of the the century, this masterful work may have been modeled on a detail from a high-relief architectural frieze.
Signed lower right, 'T.M.' and painted circa 1900.
