Frederick Sandys, (Norwich, 1º maggio1829 – Londra, 25 giugno 1904) è stato un pittore e disegnatore inglese appartenente al movimento dei preraffaelliti.
Cornice primi 900
Sandys fu molto amico di Dante Gabriele Rossetti e per più di un anno, fino all'estate del 1867, Sandys visse con Rossetti alla Tudor House (ora Queens House) nel Cheyne Walk a Chelsea. Il lavoro di Sandys fu profondamente influenzato da quello dall'amico concentrandosi maggiormente su soggetti mitologici e ritratti.
La Confraternita dei Preraffaelliti è stata un'associazione artistica influente per la pittura vittoriana (XIX secolo), nata nel settembre del 1848 e sviluppatasi ed esauritasi in Gran Bretagna. Nei suoi ideali aspira a ricreare la purezza antiaccademica che gli esponenti di questo movimento riconoscevano nelle opere create prima di Raffaello Sanzio, da cui il nome della confraternita.
