About the Item

Adrian Barquero For Now, 2025 Mixed media 60h x 40w in 152.40h x 101.60w cm ABQ018 Influenced by his Colombian heritage and background, Barquero uses his personal experience to explore his relation to memory and ephemerality. After having spent his first five years being raised by his grandparents in the Philippines he then moved to Bogotá, Colombia, to live with his mother who had recently finished her education. Once in Colombia Barquero was enveloped in a culture rich with beauty and tradition permeating every aspect of life. Yet, quickly came to understand that the history of his country was one of contrasts, a vibrant, diverse culture stained by violence, beauty and brutality existing in tandem. Having lived and switched between these distinct environments, change, transience, and impermanence are central themes in his work. Transformation being the only constant. This transience has always drawn him to create, mostly focusing on graphite as a primary medium. Adrian Barquero (b.2004) is a Colombian artist now based in Chicago through his education at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Barquero's practice primarily centers itself around graphite drawing, understanding the medium not as a preliminary step but as a vital and complete form of expression.

Blue Thumbergia, Botanical in Watercolor and Gouache, Matted and Framed
By Christina Haglid
Located in Chicago, IL
Christina Haglid Blue Thunbergia watercolor on paper 7.25h x 4.50w in 16.75h x 13.75w in framed CMH008 Christina Haglid Artist's Statement I used to write a lot of poetry, and it has shaped the narrative process in my artwork. Now painting has replaced writing. Objects in the painting are considered like words placed on a page. I use flowers, manipulated objects, and architecture together in compositions to symbolize the subtle conversations and interactions between them. They are placed in imaginary landscapes that are inspired by actual places and travels. All the paintings are watercolor and gouache on stonehendge paper, and they are made up almost entirely of individual brushstrokes.
