About the Item
Discover Anna Pennati's Homer Series – Where Ancient Epic Meets Contemporary Vision
Experience timeless mythology reimagined through striking black and white abstraction.
Anna Pennati's Homer series represents a profound artistic dialogue between ancient Greek epic poetry and contemporary visual language. Through her distinctive black and white drawings, Pennati distills the essential narratives of the Iliad and the Odyssey into powerful, energetic forms that transcend traditional figurative representation.
In these pieces, Pennati transposes the Odyssey's key figures into their energetic essence: Ulysses, Penelope, Telemachus, and the Suitors become geometric abstractions that capture the characters' symbolic power and psychological depth. Her approach achieves an extreme formal synthesis, distilling complex narratives into essential lines, circles, triangles, and squares—what she calls "alchemical sound" made visible.
Born in 1961, Anna Pennati has established herself as one of Italy's most compelling contemporary voices, with over 100 personal exhibitions and participation in more than 50 exhibitions across prestigious European venues. Her Homer series has been exhibited internationally, including at "Il giardino di Pitagora" in Germany and numerous Italian galleries.
For discerning collectors seeking works that bridge classical literature with contemporary innovation, Pennati's Homer drawings offer a unique opportunity. These pieces combine the intellectual depth of millennia-old storytelling with the visual sophistication of modern abstract art, creating timeless works that resonate across cultures and generations. Available through her representative art gallery in Milano, each work comes with full authentication and represents an exceptional investment in contemporary Italian art.

Born in Milan, from an early age Anna showed an innate attraction to drawing and colors. After graduating (Maestra d'Arte) from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, she began her career in the lively and stimulating Milanese art scene. Her works were immediately received with enthusiasm by critics and the market.
Never satisfied with success, Anna Pennati ceaselessly continued her personal and artistic journey in search of the perfect synthesis.
She thus went through various stylistic phases: a draughts woman of rare skill, she soon broke away from the academic style to approach forms and colors where the graphic layout dominated the scene, with distortions of the figure that slowly tried to free itself.
There followed a phase in which the work was born from the canvas. In other words, the initial application of color was followed by the recognition of shapes and figures that the artist slowly brought to the surface from the depths of her mind.
In 2001 she participated in the Artexpo in New York and subsequently worked in London. The Artspace Galleries, Mayfair, one of the most prestigious art venues in the English capital, was her reference point/ address for that period.
In Milan she met Valery Giscard D'Estaing, former French president; a man of refined culture, who bought one of the portraits Anna Pennati dedicated to him.
Anna Pennati is an artist addressed to the international art world, in her 25-year career she has participated in over 50 exhibitions in private galleries and museum spaces, including the Museum of Capuchin Cultural Heritage of Assisi, Miart in Milan, Artspace Galleries in London and the Northwest Sezession in Wilhelmshaven (Germany).
Pennati cleverly switches from one subject to another with great range, from time to time using a style and a technique more appropriate to the particular purpose she sets. In general, her preferred medium is acrylic on canvas, which makes the strong signs prevail, alongside color, which is the absolute protagonist of her semi abstract paintings.
In the latest works, forms, colors and lines continuously chase each other, sometimes "collaborating," sometimes "excluding" each other to arrive at artworks where the research is aimed at the archetype of ideas. The works are thus the essential expression of thought and dialogue with the viewer both visually, and mentally, allowing themselves to be slowly perceived.
