Assemblage by New York artist Elisabeth Page Purcell.
For many years Elisabeth Page Purcell has been a stone carver, but recently switched to mixed media for a different experience and to explore new ways of thinking and making. What the artist has come to enjoy about the mixed media pieces is that the approach is completely opposite to the way she is used to working with stone. This is an additive process. Purcell is playing with finding, placing and arranging different materials. Once again, the process of discovery is fascinating. She is using her instincts, but now she has less experience to rely on.
These Mixed Media assemblages show the unique relationships between the shapes, forms, colors and patterns within each piece. The artist likes to think of these arrangements as visual poems. For the last 10 years she has enjoyed collecting found objects and pairing them with shapes of her own creation.
