About the Item

In every culture, there is a circle where wisdom gathers — a space where stories are not simply told, but lived. The Gathering captures this timeless communion of hearts and minds, where elders, wrapped in the cloth of heritage, stand as living libraries of a people’s soul. The black and gold stripes flow like rivers of tradition, each fold carrying the weight of generations — battles fought, lands cultivated, values nurtured, and identities preserved. They remind us that culture is not a relic locked away, but a living rhythm passed from one heartbeat to another. At the center rests an unpainted figure, a silhouette of absence — the echo of those who came before us, whose voices still shape our steps. This absence is not emptiness, but presence in another form, reminding us that the wisdom of the past survives only if we choose to carry it forward. The Gathering calls us to remember the role of elders in African society: not simply as the aged, but as custodians of truth, interpreters of heritage, and bridges between the seen and the unseen. Without them, the fabric of our identity unravels; with them, we remain rooted, even as we stretch toward the skies. Shipping Procedure Ships in a well-protected tube from Nigeria This work is unique, not a print or other type of copy. Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity About Artist Emmanuel Ojebola was born in southwest Nigeria, Eruwa, Oyo state, in the late 90s. He had his secondary education in the Baptist model High school, Sango Eruwa, where he developed his interest in the art during the course of his junior secondary school education. His interest in art came from learning from his then-creative art teacher (Mr. Segun Adesope) before proceeding to improve his art skills at the Ibarapa Polytechnic Eruwa. He loves to work with mixed media, but mainly with coffee, acrylic, and oil. His passion for African black women and children, with the childhood care he got from his mother during his childhood days, is an inexhaustible source of inspiration. He believes women are Virgos and sees them as gods here on earth. He sees himself as a creator who uses his coffee to create human figures with depth and meaningful art pieces. Emmanuel Ojebola now practices as a full-time studio artist with a well-known and talented artist, Oluwole Omofemi. And he sees the likes of Cesar Santos, Eddie Filer, and Oluwole Omofemi as inspirational figures. He sees his art as a part of him and a way for him to express the way he sees the world and its beauty.
