Blue Color Study II is part painting, part handmade and vintage paper collage of whimsical and textural flora by Pacific Northwest artist Maggie Ramirez-Burns.
Through creating handmade versions or reusing art from her archive are intentional in her practice, a metaphor for rebirth and renewal. Maggie often reuses archived works or creates entirely by hand, allowing her process to mirror themes of renewal and transformation. Guided by the organic forms of botanicals and marine vegetation, she uses flowing compositions and intuitive color to evoke a sense of movement and healing.
Maggie’s work is about reawakening the senses and the need to preserve natural beauty. Her work is a union of her life experiences, inspirations, and the untimely death of her mother which affected her deeply. Experiencing loss at an early age naturally changed the way she viewed the world.
A first-generation American and longtime Pacific Northwest resident, Maggie has been making art since 2014 while also serving as the Creative Director of her Seattle-based shoe company, re-souL.
