This is a one of a kind luxurious sculpted leather mirror by Marie Barthès.
A circular mirror is inlayed in hand sculpted maroon leather. Both the front and the back are covered in leather with the artist's engraved signature on the back. There is a horizontal back bar made of leather by which to hang the mirror in a diagonal direction. This functional piece bridges art and design.
Marie Barthès is a Paris-based artist who specializes in leather sculptures. Her sculptures are hybrids of art and function with their characteristic mirrored elements, intricate copper wire embroidery, and skillful leatherwork. Barthès finds inspiration in the tactile beauty of leather and its potential to be both smooth and rough. She employs a variety of techniques such as hot gilding, carving, sewing, and embossing to highlight this material juxtaposition.
Barthès’ world is inspired by reality, contemplation, and observation. She interprets rhythms from nature, represents order and disorder, draws creativity from particles and cells so that each parcel of life is reflected in her works. Each composition is unique and unusual, confessing the poetic and sensual approach she has with her sculpted leather mirrors.
