Utilizing geometric abstraction and color juxtapositions in both 2D and 3D form, Billy Criswell creates symmetrical compositions that explore light, color, perspective and space. His modern sculptures evoke a sense of imploding/exploding and motion/counter-motion, challenging the viewer's perception. He incorporates an experiential process that demands constant self-examination and exploration. It is during this visual engagement that a transformative experience is created, one in which the viewer develops a new sense of awareness based on their own perception of the work. Billy Criswell is a sculptor and painter based in California. His works have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in museums and galleries throughout the United States, including the Nahcotta Gallery in Portsmouth, NH; the Pierce-Dunham Gallery in Houston TX; and Soap Box Gallery in Venice, CA. In addition, his work is in many public and corporate collections, including the Chicago Arts Council in Chicago, IL; Pfizer Corporate Headquarters in New York, NY; the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Tokyo, Japan; and Disney Studios in Los Angeles, CA. He's also a recipient of the 2011 United States Artists Foundation Project Grant, as well as a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grantee in 2010.
