She is a Professor of Visual and Performing Arts at Fairfield University and lives and works in New York City. STATEMENT In site-specific exhibitions, public art commissions, collaborative and individual projects Jo Yarrington has used varied combinations of glass, waxed surfaces, found artifacts and experimental analog photography to investigate the way we perceive – searching for, experimenting with and developing throughout a sensory-based vernacular. Her mostly translucent materials function as physical framework and symbolic membrane. Light, both natural and ambient, provides a kinetic or time-based element to her work. Scale and the integration of architecture are also pivotal components. In the 6-part installation for the two-person exhibition Illuminated, Yarrington continues her interest in the connections between vision, sound and language. In Mute-ability: Compositions 1 – 6, her title for this light-based comprehensive work, she combines the words mute and malleability. The work focuses on found piano rolls, a music storage medium, originally conceived as coded notations or ‘note control data’ for music produced in pneumatic player pianos...

The People, signed 3D photo realist mixed media sculpture of people viewing art
Located in New York, NY
Howard Kanovitz The People, 1971 3-5 Mixed Media Silkscreen on Plexiglas and aluminum base Signed: Artist's Signature etched on the work and annotated A.P., Edition of 1 (an Artists Proof, aside from the regular edition of 75) 15 × 16 × 1 1/2 inches Signatured etched on the work and annotated A.P. , aside from the limited edition of 75. This excellent 1971 3-D photo realist work "The People" is a multiple based upon a larger work the artist did of people beholding a work of art. Here, we see them only from behind, because they are busy looking at art - a clever photorealist work - art about art - catching people in the process of looking at art. Howard Kanovitz Biography Howard Kanovitz was a leader of Photo Realism: a documenter of style and fashion, depicting members of the art scene at openings, or superimposing known critics and curators onto images of board room meetings. In his particular style, he explored the intersections of painting, photography, fiction, and fact. Kanovitz studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and The Art Studenst League in Woodstock where he worked with Yasuo Kyniyoshi before moving to New York an apprenticing with Franz Kline. As a member of New York’s downtown art scene, Kanovitz painted abstract paintings, which he exhibited at Tenth Street Galleries early in his career. Following his father’s death in 1963, Kanovitz went through family photos, an experience which prompted him to interrogate the relationship between images and perception. At this time, Kanovitz abandoned abstraction in favor of a figurative style and worked arduously in this new direction. These efforts culminated in a 1966 solo exhibition at the Jewish Museum, securing his place as a leader of Photo Realism among artists such as Larry Rivers, Alex Katz, and Chuck Close. His photo based, representational paintings exhibited at the Jewish Museum show were the first to be called “photo-realist” and shocked many in the art community prompting a symposium which was held at the New York Studio School for “downtown artists” to weigh in on this perennial “hot topic”, newly addressed by one of their own. Kanovitz first began using airbrush in 1967, giving his paintings a feeling of photographic perfection. Cut out figures created using this precisionist technique were placed in the viewers space, often in front of Kanovitz’s painted canvas depicting the luminaries of the art world of the time. This type of installation was the centerpiece in the first of several Waddell Gallery shows. Kanovitz has been the subject of many solo museum shows internationally and his work is collected by institutions such as the Whitney Museum of American Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Tate Britain, London, and Museum Moderner Kunst, Vienna. -Courtesy Eric Firestone...

Where is Paradise? - Large Framed Mixed Media Glass Painting Swimmers Divers
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Reminiscent of the Fauvist movement and Italian classicism, Italian artist Giuseppe Beddru’s bold outlines, dynamic brushstrokes and contrasting use of color make his work visually exciting. His work is extremely personal as well, drawing upon the Arab presence on the island where he grew up and his own Italian heritage. His paintings are indicative of self-discovery and emotional awareness, while also focusing on color, composition, and technical skill. This balance of visual dynamics and emotional response is essential to Beddru’s work. Many of Beddru’s multi-media paintings include the visual motifs of classical Greek bas-relief sculpture, flattened within the confines of Plexiglas. Athletes and female portraits in profile are reminiscent of coins and popular classical imagery. After having admired and studied the works of the great masters, Beddru left Italy to continue his practice abroad. This large vibrant one-of-a-kind 62 inch tall by 42 inch wide artwork is painted behind and on top of several layers of Plexiglas. Beddru's pictorial subjects are represented through ink-based mixed media, applied via reverse painting techniques inspired by Italian painters from the seventeenth century. The eye of the observer is simultaneously caught by both a fascinating chromatic balance and the mystery of enigmatic figures who, from the depths of a mythological past, bring secretive symbols to our contemporary present as messages to decipher. This original artwork is framed in a modern, black wood frame. Size and price include the frame. It is ready to hang. The artwork is signed by the artist on the front in white. Free local Los Angeles area delivery included. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. The artist represents vibrant and beautiful characters that populate his artistic world and speak up loud to make their voice heard. His international exhibitions include highly ranked art galleries, art fairs, and museums. His artworks are part of distinguished international private collections, such as the collection of the Saudi Royal Family and notable art collector Graeme Hart (New Zealand). After having admired and studied the works of the great masters, Beddru left Italy to continue his practice abroad. This one-of-a-kind vibrant 22 inch square artwork is painted among many layers of Plexiglas panels. This artwork is framed in a modern, dark brown wooden frame. Size and price include the frame. It is wired and ready to hang. The artwork is signed by the artist on the front in white. Free local Los Angeles area delivery and professional installation included. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping also available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is also included. The artist represents those who are considered “different”, those who are rejected because of prejudice or, simply, ignorance. Popular imagery within the context of Greek art history is overturned by atypical, yet vibrant and beautiful characters that populate his artistic world and speak up loud to make their voice heard. Guiseppe Beddru currently lives and works in his studio in Brussels and exhibits internationally on a regular basis in venues spanning from highly ranked art fairs to museums in both solo and collective exhibitions. His artworks are part of distinguished international private collections, such as the collection of the Saudi Royal Family and notable art collector Graeme Hart (New Zealand).
