About the Item
Artist Comments
A high mountain valley appears vivid and alive. Clean air, crisp natural sounds, and colorful foliage create a tranquil atmosphere. As summer draws to a close, green leaves turn yellow, plants begin to seed, and ravens wheel through the sky. Artist Melissa Gannon uses rice paper and textured paper collage to build layered surfaces that echo the mountain crevices. Gel mediums add depth, while acrylic paints and inks softly tint the foliage.
About the Artist
Artist Melissa Gannon brings a vibrant celebration of nature to her paintings, drawing inspiration from her travels, hikes, and local exploration. Using various mediums, including watercolor, acrylic, and oil, she captures the serenity of woods, the beauty of birds, and the lively hues of flowers in her artwork. "I reflect the joy inherent in the world around us," says Melissa. In 2001, she began teaching art classes. Melissa finds that it enhances her work as she continuously seeks challenging material to match the fast-growing skills of her students, keeping her in a constant state of reaching and learning. In her well-lit studio adorned with art supplies, books, and project photos, Melissa alternately enjoys the serenity of silence or the comfort of music during her creative sessions. Beyond art, her joy extends to various activities, including knitting, cycling, and cooking.

Artist Patricia Prendergast began this pastoral view of the distant Sierra mountains by toning the whole paper with raw sienna watercolor. She lightly outlined the composition and then applied many layers of pastels. "Keeping in mind the works of some of my favorite impressionist artists, I allowed some of the raw sienna to remain visible throughout the painting," she says. "This resulted in the sky and ground planes feeling like a unified whole."
About the Artist
Pastel artist Patricia Prendergast creates impressionist artworks that depict the rivers and landscapes near her home in Sacramento, California. With each nature vignette, she captures the sense of larger natural rhythms through quick mark-making, mauve undertones, and a tranquil and serene haziness. Her work recalls the paintings from the Hudson River School such as Thomas Cole and Asher Brown Durand. Before working on her pastels at home in her studio, she spends hours studying nature on walks along the river near her home. Since becoming an artist, she says “everything is more vivid - the beauty of light and shadow in the trees, the subtlety of the color of clouds, the sparkle and reflections in water.” Her work as been exhibited in solo shows around California. She is represented by UGallery.
