About the Item
Monica DeSalvo’s “Looking Around for You” is a 11 x 14 inch abstract collage built on an acrylic monotype with bright red, bronze, green, silver, and black botanical forms. A tiny striped lighthouse is centered within abstracted impressions of intact and shards of leaves. Overlapping transparent and opaque forms create depth, light, and shadow. The monotype was created using a Gelli plate. Other elements include a jagged shape with tan seed pods and DeSalvo’s late father’s graph paper and tiny fragments of hand-written notes that she has printed onto. The work was inspired by a walk along a footpath on the Greek island of Skopelos shrouded with fruit trees. The 7.5 x 9.5 inch image is in a 11 x 14 inch white shadow mat. The signature is on the back of the collage.
