"ÀTÚNBÍ"—a beautiful, powerful title meaning "Rebirth" or "Born again" in Yorùbá. This completely shifts the focus to themes of reincarnation, renewal, and spiritual continuity. My piece, "ÀTÚNBÍ," is a deeply layered visual narrative exploring the concept of spiritual and existential rebirth captured in the poem. The artwork is intentionally constructed using two distinct strata. The lower, darker half employs heavy, complex textures and muted, earth-tone colors to represent the weight of "memories of a past life"—the "haunting, yet freeing" chain that lingers. Above this foundation, the composition dramatically opens into a vibrant, ethereal space dominated by soaring, fluid lines and brilliant hues of sapphire, gold, and jade. This transition symbolizes the soul's upward journey to "a new life, a new beginning," where the past serves as a "guide, not a weight." By allowing the vibrant top layer to subtly influence and illuminate the textured base, "ÀTÚNBÍ" celebrates the act of renewal, urging the viewer to embrace the present and their ultimate fate with luminous, reincarnated purpose. Oluwatimileyin Tega is a self-taught and multidisciplinary visual artist based in Ibadan, Nigeria. Growing up in Nigeria, they were surrounded by the rich cultural heritage and artistic traditions of the tribes. This exposure sparked an early passion for art.
After honing their skills in various media, Oluwatimileyin Tega developed a distinctive style that blends traditional techniques with contemporary themes and innovative materials. His work has been showcased in an exhibition and an installation.
