About the Item

Important, original, Pablo Picasso (1882-1973) ceramic plaque "Profil de Jacqueline", Madoura pottery 1956. The artwork was executed in 1956; this work is from the edition of 500, condition is excellent. One such plaque was sold at Sotheby's auction NY., 22nd nov 2022, for $32,760. Utilizing simple, clean-cut lines, Picasso creates an iconic image of his second wife Jacqueline in Pablo Picasso Profil de Jacqueline (Jacqueline's Profile), 1956. Picasso's geometric portrayal of Jacqueline in profile appears somewhat hieroglyphic in nature; with her decorated, long hair, large eyes, and triangular nose, Jacqueline bears a resemblance to an Egyptian pharaoh Created in 1956, this original ceramic convex wall plaque was created with black earthenware clay accentuated with white oxidized paraffin. From an edition of 500, this work is stamped 'EMPREINTE ORIGINALE DE PICASSO' and 'MADOURA PLEIN FEU' on the underside of the plaque. Pablo Picasso 'Profil de Jacqueline' (Jacqueline's Profile), 1956 is fully documented and referenced in the below catalogue raisonnés and texts; 1. Bloch, Georges.
