About the Item

Con agua y sol me he criado is a series of textile landscapes that incorporate small ceramic pieces partially visible within their volumes. These clay forms barely emerge to disrupt the softness usually associated with textiles and to create tension between fragility and resistance. The works evoke landscapes that appear after the rain and endure days of intense sun. They are imagined natures built from abstractions of the flora of Nuevo León, shaped with irregular outlines and horizons that resemble windows suspended in the air. Their compositions draw from the visual structure of architectural windows as well as digital ones, translating them into the tactile and handmade. The project stems from an observation of Monterrey: a city surrounded by immense mountains that remain constantly visible yet rarely accessible. Between heavy traffic, fast avenues, and skyscrapers of glass, steel, and concrete, daily encounters with nature happen mostly through the framing of a window. The city grows upward while nature persists at its edges. Con agua y sol me he criado is an homage to that nature that continues to exist within an environment that pressures and constrains it. Unlike the industrial materials that have shaped the aesthetic and expansion of Monterrey, this series is built through slow techniques: textiles, ceramics, and processes that require time, repetition, and careful attention. Within that slowness, there is both an affective and political gesture: imagining a possible ecology inside an urban landscape dominated by speed and the hardness of industrial materials.
