Do not lose your inner peace for anything whatsoever, even if your whole world seems upset. About Artist Odejinmi Taiwo James is a figurative artist based in Ogbomoso, Oyo state Nigeria. He was born in 1998, in Ogbomoso, Oyo state Nigeria. Art has always been part of Odejinmi's as he sees art as his voice and draws inspiration from the life experiences of the people around him and the way of life of Africans. Taiwo Odejinmi has a strong desire to become an Artist. Intrigued by the mysteries of the human figure as a unique work of nature, he uses it to create works that speak to the subject he feels is not receiving enough attention and care or is not spoken about in Nigeria. He works on many artistic mediums but has a preference for mixed media on Canvas because of their versatility and texture. He is inspired and motivated to not leave his art pieces all alone but to draw scribes of patterns on each individual piece of Art he makes that which is peculiar to Him. He devotes his time in the studio to the study of his artistic technique and the search for continuous improvement of his expressive capabilities and styles. Taiwo's art speaks about love, black power, hope, joy, pain, sociopolitical issues, and the way we are as Africans.

Idia
Located in Ibadan, Oyo
Idia (Iyoba) was the mother of Esigie, the Oba of Benin who ruled from 1504 to 1550. She played a significant role in the rise and reign of her son, being described as a great warrior who fought relentlessly before and during her son's reign as the Oba (king) of the Edo people. Queen Idia was instrumental in securing the title of Oba for her son Esigie following the death of his father Oba Ozolua. To that end, she raised an army to fight off his brother Arhuaran who was supposed to be the Oba by right and tradition but was subsequently defeated in battle. Esigie’s mother became the 17th Oba of Benin. Esigie instituted the title of iyoba (queen mother) and conferred it on his mother, along with Eguae-Iyoba (Palace of the Queen Mother). —Wikipedia She's the epitome of courage, vision, strength, and vigor. In this Becoming series, I hope to revive our heritage as well as examine the intricacies of self-actualization, vis-a-vis drawing inspiration from the African history from the Benin and Esan perspective, contemporarily.
