Alberto Martini (Oderzo, 1876 - Milan, 1954) was an Italian draftsman, painter, engraver and illustrator, forerunner of the surrealist movement. Visiting the house-museum in his hometown, one gets the impression of being in front of a painter, but above all a "French" illustrator. He was a notable portrait painter. He reached the pinnacle of success with the theater on the water and was back in Paris in the twenties until 1934. Certain lithographs were very modern, above all The Kiss from 1915.
The book has been written by Enrico Annibale Butti (Milan, 1868 - Milan, 1912) was an Italian writer and playwright. From 1892 to 1897, he wrote psychological novels, characterized by the dualism of dream / reality and the difference of views between the ideals of the fathers and those of the new generation. These themes were taken up again in his plays, thanks to which he became famous and well-known in the Italian cultural sphere.

Alberto Martini was an Italian painter, engraver and graphic designer. He was born on November 24, 1876, in Italy. Critics have described Martini's range of work from elegant and epic to grotesque and macabre and consider him one of the precursors of Surrealism. He died on November 8, 1954, in Milan.

Giulio Aristide Sartorio (11 February 1860 – 3 October 1932) was an Italian painter and film director from Rome. Having attended the Rome Institute of Fine Arts, Sartorio presented a Symbolist work at the 1883 International Exposition of Rome. He formed friendships with Nino Costa and Gabriele D’Annunzio, and associated with the painters and photographers of the Roman countryside. He won a gold medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1889 and met the Pre-Raphaelites in England in 1893. His participation in the Venice Biennale began in 1895 with the 1st International Exposition of Art of Venice, after which he taught at the Weimar Academy of Fine Arts from 1896 to 1898. It is apparent Behmer is influenced by the work of Aubrey Beardsley, though this work is no less beautiful in its execution. Little is known regarding his connections to Oscar Wilde though he is obviously an admirer and has many similarities with his private life and incarceration in prison. These works were a personal gift to Baron Detlev von Hadeln, the aristocrat and prominent art historian of the age.
Behmer is known to be, since 1903, a member in the first ever homosexual organization in Berlin and was thus probably a part of Adolf Brand’s circle, and may have contributed to Brand’s publication Der Eigene. Until now, few know that Behmer was sentenced in April 1937 by a court in Konstanz to imprisonment for two years, being arrested in Freiburg and at other locations in southern Germany for being a homosexual.
