About the Item

This elegant oval bowl by Otto and Gertrud Natzler features one of the couple’s most appealing mid-century glazes: a softly textured robin’s-egg blue with subtle tonal variation. Measuring 9.25 × 7.25 × 4 inches, the vessel shows Gertrud’s impeccable thrown form and Otto’s refined glaze chemistry, resulting in a serene, sculptural object with excellent color depth. Signed on the underside. A strong example of the Natzlers’ collaborative practice and a highly collectible mid-century ceramic suitable for both focused Natzler collections and broader modernist interiors. About Otto Gertrud Natzler: Gertrud (1908–1971) and Otto Natzler (1908–2007) were one of the most admired husband-and-wife teams in 20th-century studio ceramics. Working first in Vienna and later in Los Angeles, the pair combined Gertrud’s impeccably thrown, delicately balanced forms with Otto’s extraordinary mastery of glaze formulation. Over five decades, they produced more than 25,000 vessels and over 2,000 glaze types, ranging from velvety matte colors to iridescent volcanic and crystalline surfaces. Their work is represented in major museum collections worldwide, including the Met, LACMA, the Smithsonian, and the Victoria Albert Museum.
