The Divine Dragon Inkstone was carved in 2012 by master craftsman Wei Ming Huang, using stone from Songkeng, one of the four famous Duanxi quarries. Discovered and mined since the Northern Song dynasty, Songkeng stone is known for its dense, smooth texture and distinctive features such as golden star-like specks, “fire spots,” and the prized “coin fire” patterns. With a high mica content, it produces ink of exceptional quality, making it highly valued for carved inkstones. This piece reveals natural star-like “stone eyes” across the surface, resembling a night sky. A dragon, executed in high and openwork relief, emerges among clouds, evoking the majestic vision of a divine dragon soaring through the heavens.
