About the Item
A classic form Bauhaus inspired studio pottery pitcher by Marguerite Wildenhain.
Wildenhain was trained at the German Bauhaus, before moving to the United States with her fellow artist, and husband, Franz Wildenhain.
The two opened a school, Pond Farm, north of San Francisco, CA and taught together there for a few years before separating. Marguerite, continued to teach at Pond Farm until 1979.
Marguerite Wildenhain influenced many young artists with her workshops at Pond Farm, in Guernville, CA, through the three books she published, and through a pottery seminar at Black Mountain College, in 1952.
This work is a great example of the Wildenhain's Bauhaus esthetic, and is in great condition.
Signed on the bottom with the artist's cypher. (see images).

BIOGRAPHY
Randy was born in 1913 and died in 1997. He obtained his MFA, Master's of Fine Art, at Alfred University in 1937 and was Instructor of Industrial Design 1949-1951, and Instructor in Pottery 1951-1956. Randy was nationally known for his paintings and ceramics, named the nation's CERAMIC ARTIST OF THE YEAR IN 1949 BY NEWSWEEK MAGAZINE. His career was dedicated to art and the creation of the Hartsville Museum.
