About the Item
Original collage artwork done in 1968 attributed to the hand of Mariam Simpson Sawyer. No visible signature. Artist biography verso along with date, 1968. Condition is excellent. Under glass. The artwork is very nicely matted and framed in a rich walnut colored wooden frame with gold inner edge. Frame is in very good condition. Overall framed measurements are 23 by 33.75 inches. Provenance: A Sarasota, Florida collector.
Miriam Simpson Sawyer (American 1912-1979)

Instructor of basic drawing and design, oil painting, portrait and Advanced Experimental workshop at the Manchester Institute of Ants and Sciences.
Studied with the late Rosmond deKalb of Nashua, New Hampshire. Advanced study with Mitchell Siporin and Sidney Laufman at Brandeis University . She was a member of Experimental workshop and advanced critique with Donald Stoltenbeng at the DeCordova Museum School, Lincoln, Massachusetts.
Has exhibited extensively in juried exhibitions, including the New York Worlds Fair, the Boston Arts Festival, the Springfield Fair, Hopkins Art Center, Dartmouth College, Lamont Gallery, Philips Exeter Academy, the Art Center in Hangate, St. Faul's School, Concord, N. H., Paul’s Arts Center, University of New Hampshire, DeCordova Museum, Lincoln, Massachusetts, Currier Gallery of Art, Manchester, New Hampshire.
Cambridge Art Association (five man exhibition), Keene State Teachers College (two man exhibition), lanchester Institute of Ants and Sciences (one man exhibition).
Winner of the 1964 Yankee Magazine first prize in the N. i. Art Association exhibition at the Currier gallery of Art, judged by Gordon Smith, Director of the Albright Museum in Buffalo.
Winner of the James W. Hill memorial award in 1957, also at the Currier Gallery of Art for drawing, judged by the director of the Fogg Art Museum, Mr. Coolidge.
In 1967 she received the Charles
Smith award at a national competition sponsored by the Bann Gallery Associates, Ogunquit. .Represented in many private and public collections including the Manchester Banks, the Concord National Bank, Concord Public Library , and Second National Bank of Nashua, New Hampshire..
Board member and past president of the New Hampshire Art Association, member of the Oqunquit Ant Association, Cambridge Art Association, Weeden Gallery, Lewis Wharf, Boston, New Hampshire Art Gallery, Concord, New Hampshire.
