About the Item
Aluminium Contour Plateau is a cold-cast aluminium from a mould from an edition of 5. Topography and geometry meet in these dream-like maps. Imaginary rivers and valleys cut through the strata of cold cast bronze. The absence of colour enhances the smooth chiselled finish to create a powerful homage to natural structures. These handmade works are unlike machine-polished marble; they are more organic-looking looking with some areas more matte and some more reflective. This natural aesthetic is what makes up their appeal.
Petr Weigl creates beautifully finished, wall-mounted contemporary artworks in ceramic, concrete, and metal. Born in England to a Czech family, he first trained as a graphic designer before studying ceramics at Central Saint Martins in 2001. His work draws on personal history, human behaviour, and the way we relate to each other. He is also inspired by natural forms and patterns—organic structures that are both imperfect and precise. Each piece is designed to hold layers of meaning. What may appear simple at first gradually reveals depth, emotion, and narrative as you spend time with it. Known for their refined surfaces and careful craftsmanship, Petr Weigl’s works bring a quiet elegance and sense of calm, offering a thoughtful reflection of contemporary life.
