About the Item
Humanity is more alike than we often realise. We all share the same basic needs, desires, and concerns, no matter our background or culture. This series pays homage to the craft of ceramics, reflecting on the subtle variations that naturally occur during the making process. Each tile is unique—just as each person is—but the similarities remain. The work invites us to consider: despite our differences, are we truly so different from one another?
Petr Weigl creates beautifully finished, wall-mounted contemporary artworks in ceramic, concrete, and metal. Born in England to a Czech family, he first trained as a graphic designer before studying ceramics at Central Saint Martins in 2001. His work draws on personal history, human behaviour, and the way we relate to each other. He is also inspired by natural forms and patterns—organic structures that are both imperfect and precise. Each piece is designed to hold layers of meaning. What may appear simple at first gradually reveals depth, emotion, and narrative as you spend time with it. Known for their refined surfaces and careful craftsmanship, Petr Weigl’s works bring a quiet elegance and sense of calm, offering a thoughtful reflection of contemporary life.
