First edition. Numbered #244 . In original hard paper. Slight damage on spine. 31, (1), (3) p., 31 plates. Yury (Pavlovich) Annenkov (1889-1974) was a Russian painter, scenic designer, book illustrator, a "miriskusniki" member of the circle around the Russian art magazine Mir Iskusstva, which had a major influence on Russians who helped revolutionize European art in the early 20th century. Annenkov studied art at University of St. Petersburg together with Marc Chagall. 1911-12 went to Paris to work at the studios of Maurice Denis and Félix Vallotton. His first book illustrations were published in the late 1910s, among them his most known work Alexander Blok's "Twelve" (1918). In 1922 his book "Portraits" was published, which contains 80 pictures of the key-figures of Russian art of the time. He left the Soviet Union permanently in 1924, first lived in Germany than he settled down in Paris where he continued his work as an artist and costume designer. In original hard paper.
