This monoprint print was inspired by a cycle trip round the Norfolk Coast a few years ago. The landscape there is so unlike the landscape around Sarah’s home in Yorkshire, it’s flat and open with big skies and arable fields stretching far and wide.
The base of this print is a photographic screen print, printed in a blend of blues, pinks and greys. The next layers are added using stencils, oil based ink and a large piece of lino. The stencils are cut carefully to follow the natural contours of the land. The layers are added slowly, sometimes over several days to allow for drying time, building up a rich, textural surface.
Although Sarah’s monoprints tend to be printed in groups of three or four, each print is unique, as she uses different stencils and slightly different colours for each one.
