Shepard Fairey (b. 1970, Charleston, SC) is a world-renowned street artist, activist, and designer. Emerging from the skateboarding and punk scene, he first gained attention with his Andre the Giant Has a Posse sticker campaign, which evolved into the influential OBEY project. Fairey rose to global prominence with his 2008 Obama “Hope” poster, cementing his role as an artist who merges aesthetics with political commentary. His works are held in major institutions including MoMA, the Smithsonian, and LACMA.
Fairey draws heavily from Soviet and Constructivist propaganda, punk rock ethos, and DIY street culture. This piece, created in conjunction with his band NØISE, takes its title from a Discharge song and channels the raw energy of protest art. The print embodies his enduring mission: to question authority and spark dialogue through bold, iconic imagery.
