About the Item
Ceramic Plaque: 11.5 x 11.5 inches
Solid Wood Frame: 15.5 x 15.5 inches
An exquisite Castelli Maiolica plaque, featuring a richly detailed scene of the Italian Renaissance. The ceramic tile depicts a lush coastal landscape where an ancient stone fortress stands prominently on a rocky embankment overlooking a blue bay that harbors sailing vessels. A winding path and staircase lead up to the structure, distant figures stroll. In the foreground, a large, gnarled tree with deep green foliage dominates the right side, framing the view of the water and distant mountains. Several figures in period attire stand near the water's edge. The colors are earthy and vibrant, characteristic of majolica glazes, and the surface of the plaque shows a delicate "craquelure" (fine network of cracks) consistent with its age.
The ceramic is ready to hang, set in a solid wood frame.
