Orotina is an exploration of longing, articulating dialogue between presence and absence. This piece reflects on a place that has irrevocably changed, a space once vibrant and alive now rendered hostile, where the air is thick with ash and sulfur, stripping away its tropical sylvan breath. The juxtaposition of what once was and what remains creates a haunting atmosphere that speaks to the dissonance between memory and reality.
In this work, Barquero strives to transcend the literal representation of setting, painting perception rather than space, instead focusing on the intangible qualities that define our experiences.
Orotina encourages introspection, prompting viewers to consider how memory and absence shape their understanding of identity and belonging, ultimately revealing the relationship between change and loss.
