A dramatic, Expressionist coastal landscape showing a view of white-capped jade green breakers crashing against a rocky shoreline, with a distant mountain painted in shades of scarlet, slate blue, and indigo rising in the background.
Alice Beamish first studied with Hans Hofmann at the University of California at Berkeley, receiving an M. A. and B. A., followed by extended study with Hoffman in Europe, North Africa and the United States. She completed a fellowship at Huntington Hartford Foundation receiving a residence, studio and full stipend. Beamish was the recipient of numerous prizes, medals and purchase awards and exhibited at De Young, Palace of the Legion of Honor, San Francisco, Oakland and Los Angeles County Museums. She served as president of the Central California Art League and was also a teacher and a widely-published poet and author. She was also a member of the National League of American Pen Women and the California Federation of Chapparal Poets.
